Phosphorus CEO Alex Bisignano to Present at PMWC 2018
The Precision Medicine World Conference (PMWC) 2018, now in its 9th year, provides an opportunity for medical professionals and other leaders to examine the advances and challenges of precision medicine through a practical lens. This year, the conference will be held in Silicon Valley from January 22 to 24, and our own CEO Alex Bisignano will be participating in a panel discussion titled “Accelerating Clinical Next-Generation Sequencing: Navigating the Path to Reimbursement.”
The session will focus on barriers to broad adoption of next-generation sequencing (NGS) in a clinical environment, such as complexity in workflow and reimbursement. The panelists will discuss the need to simplify these processes in order to economically enable value-based healthcare and will also provide insights into the current state of reimbursement, including how individuals not directly involved in reimbursement can influence and expedite change.
Other panel discussion topics pertaining to reimbursement of NGS tests may include:
- The Recent FDA Approval and Medicare Coverage Decision for Cancer Biomarker Tests: How does the FDA Approval & Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Coverage Decision affect reimbursement in clinical oncology? What does the decision mean for Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs) as opposed to PMA- or 510(k)-cleared in vitro diagnostics? What might it signal for tests beyond clinical oncology?
- CPT Code Combinatorics: How has the Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedule chosen to address the various CPT code combinations that may exist when billing for the same genetic test (ex. BRCA1/2)?
- Billing Policies & Procedures: From a process perspective, how does a laboratory tackle the administrative challenges of billing, such as obtaining medical records, prior authorization, and pre-test genetic counseling?
